Staff development initiative
We conducted a series of trainings in late 2007 and early 2008 to foster continual improvement for all team members at the BHA. Middle managers trained leadership, conflict resolution, motivation and decision making. Training for front-line staff members was devoted to customer service. Maintenance staff members received mechanical trainings. Trained for senior staff members focused on leadership, communication, evaluation and staff development.
Initiatives to improve lives of residents
In 2007 and 2008, Resident Services improved services, management procedures and staff skills through a number of initiatives. The department:
In partnership with the Department of Mental Health, we selected our Belair Tower site for an eight-apartment special needs housing project. With planning complete, construction of the new $1.3 million residence is set for summer 2008.
Home building initiative
The Economic Development team built three homes in 2007 as part of the Welcome Home Program, adding to our supply of homes available for qualified BHA residents to purchase.
