2009 Person of the Year

At our annual meetings held in the spring, we select a person who has done a superlative job in the previous year supporting local housing needs.

We awarded the 2009 Outstanding Person of the Year Award to Robert S. Creedon, Jr. because of his true commitment to workforce housing, his tireless dedication to public service and his unwavering support of his hometown of Brockton. Having grown up on the east side of Brockton, Bob learned the important life lessons of family, church and community. He   translated these lessons into a lifetime of service to others, beginning as the youngest member elected to the State House of Representatives in 1968 and continuing as a Brockton City Councilor and six-term State Senator. Bob's wife Geraldine is also committed to public service. She has served on the Brockton City Council and is currently a State Representative. Bob and Geri are two of Brockton's greatest allies. Bob's longstanding interest in land use, planning and zoning legislation led to the enactment of the State's Chapter 40B housing legislation. Bob's commitment continues to be inspired by the same values that have guided him at every step in his career of public service. He is currently the Clerk of Courts for the Plymouth County Superior Court.

We named Mayor James Harrington the 2008 Outstanding Person of the Year. The BHA Board cited the Mayor's support for BHA programs both as a City Councilor and as Mayor, including programs such as YouthBuild, the Pleasant Prospect initiative and the Fireman foreclosure project. The Board noted his confidence in the BHA by asking the agency to administer the city's federal HOME program and to redevelop the former James Edgar School site. Also, even in difficult financial times, the Mayor continued to assign two outstanding community police officers to work with housing residents in order to keep BHA developments and all Brocktonians safe. Because of Mayor Harrington's shared commitment to improving Brockton's quality of life, the Board was proud to honor him.
